The X3 is BMW's entry in the mini sport utility vehicle. BMW assigns the title "Sport Activity Vehicle" or SAV to both of its offerings in this segment. Meant for people with active lifestyles who need lots of space and plenty of engine to get up and go anywhere.

Its smaller size and engine options allow greater fuel economy while still providing the elevated ride height and passenger capability that SUV owners require.

Originally offered in 2003, the mini Bimmer went through a slight redesign in 2006 which included a few minor upgrades. It has been the best selling all wheel drive vehicle in Germany at this point.
